🎮 How to Build a Platformer Game with JavaScript
Platformer games are one of the best ways to learn game development. You'll master physics, collision detection, animation, and game loops — all with vanilla JavaScript.
Step 1: Set Up Your Canvas
Create an HTML5 Canvas element and get its 2D context. This is your game's drawing surface. Set up a game loop using requestAnimationFrame for smooth 60fps animation.
Step 2: Player Character
Draw a rectangle (or sprite) as your player. Implement keyboard input to move left/right and jump. Add gravity so the player falls back down.
Step 3: Platforms and Collision
Create platform objects with x, y, width, and height. Implement collision detection to stop the player from falling through platforms. This is the core mechanic.
Step 4: Level Design
Design multiple levels with increasing difficulty. Add moving platforms, collectible coins, and enemies. Make it fun!
Step 5: Polish
Add sound effects, particle effects, a scoring system, and a game over screen. These details make your game feel professional.
